Illustrative planning model, not a quote or market average. Excludes taxes, paid themes/plugins, translation, product entry, platform and payment fees, custom backend work and ongoing SEO. Store setup assumes one standard catalog and hosted checkout; integrations assume standard third-party connections. Contingency applies to development plus rush allowance. How the calculation works

Each selected work item adds a low and high number of development hours. Development cost = total hours × your hourly rate. Rush delivery adds 25% to development; contingency applies to development plus that rush allowance.

Build budget = development + rush allowance + contingency. Annual running costs = 12 × (monthly hosting + monthly maintenance) + annual domain. First-year total = build budget + annual running costs. Currency changes the label only; no exchange conversion is applied.

Try an example

The business website example includes five custom-designed pages, a CMS and on-page SEO: 52–86 hours. At the illustrative USD 65/hour rate, development is USD 3,380–5,590. With 15% contingency and no rush allowance, the build budget is USD 3,887–6,428.50. Hosting at USD 20/month and a USD 20/year domain add USD 260, giving a first-year total of USD 4,147–6,688.50.

Where do these website cost estimates come from?

Created by ZequnWeb
Model 1.1 · Checked

This is ZequnWeb’s own illustrative effort model. The hours and example rate are planning assumptions, not a survey of developer prices. The range represents a lower and higher effort scenario for the selected work; it is not a statistical confidence interval or a delivery schedule.

What counts as a page?
A page in the primary language, such as Home, About, Services or Contact. An extra language adds implementation effort per page; translated text is supplied separately.
What changes the estimate?
More pages, richer design, content editing, store setup, copywriting and integrations add hours. Your rate sets the cost of those hours; contingency reserves budget for uncertainty.
What needs its own quote?
Custom applications, complex checkout, data migration, translation and large product catalogs. Platform subscriptions, paid plugins, taxes and payment fees need separate allowances.

Monetary inputs accept up to two decimal places in every currency. Each fee and contingency amount rounds half up to two decimals before the totals are added. The effort table above shows the selected assumptions. Before committing to a build, ask your provider to confirm the page list, deliverables, revision rounds, third-party charges and acceptance checks in writing.

How to use this calculator

  1. Choose a landing page, business website or online store example. Adjust the number of pages and languages, design approach and features to match your project. Page count is for the primary language; extra-language work is added separately.
  2. Enter your provider's hourly rate or your own planning rate, choose a contingency percentage and enter hosting, maintenance and domain budgets. The currency selector changes labels only; all entered amounts should use that currency.
  3. Review the live build budget, running costs and first-year total. Check the itemized effort assumptions, then copy, download or print the estimate before leaving. Share the scope with a provider for a project-specific quote.

Common questions

How much does a website cost?

This calculator estimates a budget from your chosen scope and hourly rate. Its five-page custom business website example uses 52–86 development hours. At the illustrative USD 65 hourly rate with 15% contingency, the one-time build budget is USD 3,887–6,428.50. These are planning assumptions, not a market average or a ZequnWeb quote. A provider should confirm the actual scope and price.

What is included in the website cost estimate?

The model includes planning and launch, your design approach and page build work with responsive checks. You can add a CMS, standard online store setup, primary-language copywriting, on-page SEO setup, extra-language implementation and third-party integrations. The effort table shows each selected item's hours; the estimate multiplies total hours by your rate.

How are multilingual pages counted?

Enter the number of pages in the primary language and the total number of languages. Each extra language adds 1–2 implementation hours per page. A five-page site in three languages adds 10–20 hours for the two extra languages. Translation fees are excluded, and the model assumes translated text is supplied.

Does changing currency convert the estimate?

No. The currency selector changes the monetary labels without converting amounts. Enter the hourly rate, hosting, maintenance and domain costs in your chosen currency. The calculator does not fetch exchange rates or adjust its example numbers for local pricing.

What is the difference between build cost and first-year cost?

The one-time build budget includes development, an optional 25% rush allowance and your contingency percentage applied to both. Each fee and contingency amount rounds half up to two decimal places before totals are added. Monetary inputs accept up to two decimals in every currency. First-year cost adds 12 months of hosting and maintenance plus one annual domain budget. Monthly costs are assumed constant for all twelve months; annual running costs do not include the one-time build.

What costs need a separate budget?

The estimate excludes taxes, paid themes and plugins, translation, product entry, ecommerce platform subscriptions, payment processing fees, custom backend development and ongoing SEO. The online store option assumes a standard catalog, cart and hosted checkout. Complex integrations, memberships, migrations and custom applications need a separate scope.

Can I save my website estimate?

Use Download estimate for a text file containing your scope, effort assumptions and cost breakdown. Copy puts the same information on your clipboard, and Print / save PDF opens your browser's print dialog. Inputs stay in the current page and are not restored after a reload, so export a copy before leaving.
