Website Checklist for Solo Attorneys

A small law firm website does not need to feel small. It needs to answer a potential client's practical questions with calm clarity and credible detail.

A legal website planning checklist with navy folders and brass scales

The practical checklist

  • Practice areas are visible without opening multiple menus
  • Service location and relevant jurisdiction are stated clearly
  • Attorney biography includes admissions and relevant experience
  • Each practice-area page explains the client situation in plain language
  • Phone number and consultation action are easy to find on mobile
  • The contact form explains what information to include
  • The site explains what happens after a consultation request
  • Office address, hours, and accessibility details are current
  • Claims, testimonials, and disclaimers follow applicable professional rules
  • Every page has a clear title, description, and one useful next action

Make the fit obvious in the first minute.

A potential client should be able to see your practice areas, service location or jurisdiction, and the kind of situations you handle without translating legal language. They are trying to decide whether it is worth making a first call.

If you serve a narrow type of matter, say so. Clear qualification is often more helpful than attempting to speak to every possible legal need.

Show the evidence behind the promise.

Your attorney profile, admissions, relevant experience, process explanation, office details, and appropriate client feedback can all reduce uncertainty. Use specifics where you can, and avoid generic claims that any firm could make.

The site should make your professional approach legible before a person has to share a sensitive situation with a stranger.

Remove friction from the first contact.

Phone, location, availability expectations, and a straightforward consultation form should be easy to find on every device. Explain what someone should include and what happens after they submit it.

Good legal websites do not pressure people. They make a difficult first step feel clear, respectful, and manageable.
